More big news!

We've been so preoccupied with the house, that I haven't posted about much else in our lives. Our big news is- we are adopting again! We started the process in December, in the midst of packing and preparing to move. We knew when we brought Belachew home that we would start the process to adopt again pretty soon. We don't want a big age difference between children, we saw the reality of how many children are waiting for families in Ethiopia, and we felt a peace about moving forward. We completed all of our paperwork a few weeks ago and have been matched with a baby boy! We can't post any pictures of him until our adoption process is complete, but he is 7 months old and he is beautiful! If you see us around, we'd be happy to share a picture with you. We now wait to get assigned a court date, which can take a few months. Our hope is to have our baby home by the end of the summer or early fall. We'll keep you posted!

Giddy-up, we are so happy for your family!

I was talking with my mother tonight and she was asking about your family and the new house (clearly she is stalking your blog). Anyways, she LOVES the new house. LOVES IT!!! (They live in an old victorian house that they restored when I was younger.) She asked me to ask you if you could please post pictures of the inside of your new house as well. She would love to see before and after pictures if you have any.

hi cindy, sarah's sister here. i am very happy for y'all, that you are able to adopt again! what agency are you going through?
thank you for sharing your insight and experience with me concerning adoptions here in malawi (and elsewhere). in my limited experience, it is very difficult to finalize an adoption here, lots of loop holes and such. i do know that since madonna's first adoption, it has been even harder for expats to adopt, much to our disappointment. there are so many problems with the system here, and i'm sure it is the same in many countries. i agree that the background checks and family screening should be a very careful process, but the expenses of adoption are often too much for many families to afford. the strange thing is that adopting in malawi is extremely cheap, but a very hard and long road where families often end up loosing the child they have been fostering for up to 18 months. there is a lot of corruption here, too.
i really love the model that ministry of hope uses. they have 6 feeding centers (with more to come) throughout the central region of malawi. they provide 3-4 meals a week for the orphans of the community, allowing them to attend school instead of working in the fields for food. it also allows people in the community to take them in and care for them, since ministry of hope is providing half of their food needed per week. it is a malawian run organization, intended to keep orphans in their communities while supporting those who have taken them in. ministry of hope isn't perfect, but i do wish there were more things like that out there. maybe there are, i just don't know of many.
again, thanks for you insight. i will definitely be following you through your next adoption process. i feel like i could learn a lot from you.
